First United Methodist Church Schenectady

We are a church that loves to learn and yearns to be a gift of God to our communities.

First UMC Schenectady is proud to be a thinking church.  We believe in the integration of our minds into our faith.  We are justice seeking congregation, and affiliated with the Methodist Federation for Social Action.  We are welcoming, affirming and celebrating of queer and trans folx and affiliated with the Reconciling Ministries Network.  We are a part of United Methodists of Upper New York.  We bring our passion that God loves all people to everything we do – to worship, to ministries, to mission, and to the way we interact with each other and the world.

We are a reconciling congregation

We are a reconciling congregation

All persons are recipients of God’s love and grace; God intends the church to be a community which embodies love, grace and justice for all people as a sign of God’s covenant. We, therefore, will continue to seek and welcome persons of any age, gender, race, ethnic background, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability as full participants in our community of faith.

We are a Stephen Ministry Congregation

Stephen Ministry is confidential, one-on-one caring by trained lay persons for those experiencing a serious life transition.

We are a Peace with Justice Covenant Congregation

What We Do

What We Do

FUMC is involved in missions locally in Schenectady, nationally in many parts of the US, and internationally with special connections in Nicaragua. We serve a community breakfast free of charge on Sunday mornings from 8:30 to 9:30 AM. The community breakfast does not take place the first Sunday of every month. We have a long standing relationship with CEPAD in Nicaragua. (See our mission page). We take the Bible seriously, but not literally. We also have some ways to get involved musically.
