First United Methodist Church Schenectady

We are a church that loves to learn and yearns to be a gift of God to our communities.

Worship has moved back to the sanctuary

Since Sunday, February 20th, 2022, we have been offering in-person worship at 10 AM on Sundays, in our Sanctuary.  We continue to require masks to be worn in our building when COVID risk is high.

Those who cannot attend in person can view our live stream, which will be posted on our Youtube channel. You can watch replays of our services in the same place if you are unable to watch live.

We are a reconciling congregation

We are a reconciling congregation

All persons are recipients of God’s love and grace; God intends the church to be a community which embodies love, grace and justice for all people as a sign of God’s covenant. We, therefore, will continue to seek and welcome persons of any age, gender, race, ethnic background, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability as full participants in our community of faith.

We are a Stephen Ministry Congregation

Stephen Ministry is confidential, one-on-one caring by trained lay persons for those experiencing a serious life transition.

We are a Justice-Seeking Congregation

We are a Justice-Seeking Congregation

We work in covenant with the Methodist Federation for Social Action to be the inclusive, anti-racist/anti-oppressive, justice seeking, risk-taking Body of Christ

We are a Peace with Justice Covenant Congregation

As followers in Jesus’ footsteps, we believe that a ministry of peace and justice is a way to witness to the whole gospel.

What We Do

What We Do

FUMC is involved in missions locally in Schenectady, nationally in many parts of the US, and internationally with special connections in Nicaragua. We serve a community breakfast free of charge on Sunday mornings from 8:30 to 9:30 AM. The community breakfast does not take place the first Sunday of every month. We have a long standing relationship with CEPAD in Nicaragua. (See our mission page). We take the Bible seriously, but not literally. We also have some ways to get involved musically.
