SUMMARY:A MoonBee is coming!
DESCRIPTION:The United Women in Faith will host a MoonBee on Saturday\, May 3\, 2025 at 10:00 to 12:00 in the Fellowship Hall. We had so much fun last year that we wanted to do it again! What is the MoonCatcher Project? The mission of the organization is “’to optimize girls’ lives worldwide by removing barriers related to menstruation.” We often forget that menstruation products are not easily accessible in countries around the world. A MoonCatcher kit includes washable pads in a waterproof bag. The kits will enable girls to attend school. On May 3rd we will be making these kits. If you have a sewing machine\, please bring it\, but it is not necessary. There are many steps in the process. Our MoonBee welcomes friends and neighbors to join us. If you have any questions\, please contact the church office.

DESCRIPTION:Our next book discussion will be held on Saturday\, May 13th. The Intersectional Justice Committee has selected Howard Thurman’s book\, Jesus and the Disinherited. Martin Luther King\, Jr. and his coworkers used to carry this book with them. They sought inspiration from it in the days leading to the Montgomery bus boycott; it helped shape the civil rights movement and change history.\nWe gather at 10:00 am in Fellowship Hall and are often done by 11:30. Some folks have the opportunity to read the whole book while others may only have an opportunity to read a few chapters\, but the conversation is always a lively exchange of ideas. \nEveryone is welcome.

DESCRIPTION:As is our tradition at FUMC\, we will have our annual worship service of Lessons and Carols on Sunday\, December 22nd at 10 AM.  In a Service of Lessons and Carols\, the story of the Nativity of Jesus is told through scripture and song. \nWe will welcome the Emery String Quartet as well as members of our Chancel Choir for this service. DESCRIPTION:A Long Night Advent Service\, held on or near the longest night of the year\, is designed for those who find Christmas a difficult season.  We hear constantly about the happiness of the season and about getting together with family and friends.  Yet grief\, broken relationships\, unemployment\, illness\, pain\, and isolation can make us feel very alone in the midst of the celebrating.  This special service\, which will include music\, prayers\, and readings\, is to help us reflect on God as Emmanuel\, “God-with-us”\, who comes to us in times of struggle and reminds us of the true preciousness of the gift of Emmanuel and how we can gain comfort by knowing that we are never truly alone.

DESCRIPTION:Young and old alike\, come gather to bring some joy and Christmas music to those members of our church family who are not able to get out often. \nAfter church on Sunday\, December 8th we will get together for lunch\, then go out to visit and sing carols with the homebound.  If you have ever had the pleasure of being visited by our church carolers or if you have been on of the carolers in previous years\, you’ll know what a wonderful experience this can be.  If you have never sung with us before\, come try it!  You’ll be filled with the Christmas spirit! \nIn order that we may know how many carolers we’ll have to plan for lunch\, please sign up on a Sunday or contact the church office.

Committed to the promotion of brass chamber music through education\, the American Brass Quintet has been in residence at The Juilliard School since 1987 and the Aspen Music Festival since 1970. The New York Times recently wrote that “among North American brass ensembles none is more venerable than the American Brass Quintet\,” while Newsweek has hailed the ensemble as “the high priests of brass.” \nNote: Due to an unforeseen medical issue with of one of the members of Harmonic Brass\, their 2019 American tour has been canceled.

Ms. Vroman starred for several years on Broadway as Christine in The Phantom of the Opera. Also as Christine she garnered Theatre Critics’ awards for the role in a record breaking run in San Francisco. Lisa is a frequent guest soloist with orchestras\, and theater and opera companies around the world. She has performed as a guest of the Kennedy family at a Profiles in Courage Award Dinner as well as for Queen Elizabeth and former presidents Gerald Ford\, George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton.
