SUMMARY:FUMC Volunteers at Food Bank
DESCRIPTION:FUMC has been invited to volunteer at the Regional Food Bank on Saturday\, June 27\, from 9:00 to 10:30 AM!  The Food Bank is located at 965 Albany Shaker Road in Latham\, 12110.  All ages are welcome to participate.  The maximum number we can have in our group is 15.  The Regional Food Bank has several programs which serve 23 counties in northern NY.  Most of the food for our church’s Community Breakfast comes from that organization.  Volunteers are needed to sort and package food so that it can be distributed to those in need.  If you would like to share in this fun\, worthwhile activity\, contact the church office by June 21.

DESCRIPTION:Everyone is welcome to gather for the final concert in our 2025-2026 Concert Series\, which is free and open to all\, and will feature this dynamic musical pair:  \n—Chuck Seipp\, trumpeter\, is Adjunct Professor of Trumpet at James Madison University. He retired as Sergeant Major after 32 years with The United States Army Band\, “Pershing’s Own\,” serving as Concert Band Group Leader.  He has performed at presidential\, national\, and historical events\, concerts\, and Arlington National Cemetery ceremonies. Seipp played with various ensembles\, toured Europe with organist Diane Bish\, and performed with the National Symphony Orchestra and others.  He leads the Seipp/Williams Trumpet-Organ Duo and manages CJ Seipp Music Publications\, with arrangements used by groups like the Canadian Brass Quintet.  \n—Craig S. Williams\, organist\, is the Organist and Choirmaster at the Cadet Chapel\, U.S. Military Academy West Point. He oversees over 400 annual services and events across five chapels\, and manages the world’s largest church all-pipe organ.  His performances\, featured on Fox News and YouTube\, have garnered millions of views. With over 40 years of experience\, Williams has played at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall and Segerstrom Hall.

DESCRIPTION:Our next book discussion will be held on Saturday\, May 13th. The Intersectional Justice Committee has selected Howard Thurman’s book\, Jesus and the Disinherited. Martin Luther King\, Jr. and his coworkers used to carry this book with them. They sought inspiration from it in the days leading to the Montgomery bus boycott; it helped shape the civil rights movement and change history.\nWe gather at 10:00 am in Fellowship Hall and are often done by 11:30. Some folks have the opportunity to read the whole book while others may only have an opportunity to read a few chapters\, but the conversation is always a lively exchange of ideas. \nEveryone is welcome.

DESCRIPTION:As is our tradition at FUMC\, we will have our annual worship service of Lessons and Carols on Sunday\, December 22nd at 10 AM.  In a Service of Lessons and Carols\, the story of the Nativity of Jesus is told through scripture and song. \nWe will welcome the Emery String Quartet as well as members of our Chancel Choir for this service.  Dominick Giaquinto will serve as organist and Mitch Haverly will be the conductor.  The congregation will be invited to sing familiar carols and hymns and the Chancel Choir will sing several anthems. \nThis service is a wonderful way to experience the true meaning and spirit of the Christmas season. DESCRIPTION:A Long Night Advent Service\, held on or near the longest night of the year\, is designed for those who find Christmas a difficult season.  We hear constantly about the happiness of the season and about getting together with family and friends.  Yet grief\, broken relationships\, unemployment\, illness\, pain\, and isolation can make us feel very alone in the midst of the celebrating.  This special service\, which will include music\, prayers\, and readings\, is to help us reflect on God as Emmanuel\, “God-with-us”\, who comes to us in times of struggle and reminds us of the true preciousness of the gift of Emmanuel and how we can gain comfort by knowing that we are never truly alone.
