The primary purpose of our music ministry is to enrich worship as a church community by providing musical leadership and encouraging participation by the congregation. The choir leads the congregation’s sung prayer and provides choral music in a variety of styles in order to create more prayerful worship.
FUMC sponsors a Concert Series that brings nationally and internationally known organists, musicians, choral groups and vocalists to Schenectady. The Concert Series is free and open to the public.
The Chancel Choir, pictured, rehearses on Thursday evenings 7:00 to 8:30pm. They sing every Sunday during Worship from September through June. It is currently on hiatus pending the end of pandemic restrictions.
The Bell Choir participates in worship services throughout the year. They rehearse on Wednesdays at 6:45pm. It is also currently on hiatus pending the end of pandemic restrictions.
As part of FUMC’s 200th Celebration events in 2007, the Music Ministry has had a new organ composition written by Steve Best. It was first played at the Open House in September. The piece, entitled, “Celebration!” is available at no charge and can be downloaded here.
