{"id":4584,"date":"2020-10-31T01:56:09","date_gmt":"2020-10-31T01:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fumcschenectady.org\/blog\/2020\/10\/31\/all-saints-remembrance\/"},"modified":"2020-10-31T01:56:09","modified_gmt":"2020-10-31T01:56:09","slug":"all-saints-remembrance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fumcschenectady.org\/blog\/2020\/10\/31\/all-saints-remembrance\/","title":{"rendered":"All Saints Remembrance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(Due to echo, many couldn\u2019t hear the remembrance this year.\u00a0 Words are here.)<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>May<br \/>\nGod&rsquo;s blessing be with us in the reading of these names and in the<br \/>\ncontinuation of their lives&rsquo; labor. \u00a0 <\/p>\n<p><b>Names Read<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><br \/><\/b><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>We<br \/>\nBless Your holy name, O God<\/p>\n<p>for<br \/>\nall your servants who, having finished their course,<\/p>\n<p>now<br \/>\nrest from their labors.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Give<br \/>\nus grace to follow the example of their<\/p>\n<p>steadfastness<br \/>\nand faithfulness,<\/p>\n<p>to<br \/>\nyour honor and glory.\n<\/p>\n<p>Amen <\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>On this All Saints Day, we have read<br \/>\nthe names of our church family, and beloveds of our church family who<br \/>\nhave passed away in the past year.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>This year it seems imperative to take<br \/>\nnote of the at least 1,760,000 people worldwide who have died after<br \/>\ncontracting COVID-19. \u00a0This is a number beyond our comprehension, and<br \/>\nyet it is a number that likely reflects significant under counting. \u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Some of those who have died are<br \/>\nacquaintances, friends, and family.<\/p>\n<p>Most of them are unknown to us.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>They are people from around the world,<br \/>\nand from our own city.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Men, and women, and transgender people.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Old, and middle aged, and young.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Across all ethnicities and race, yet<br \/>\nalways hitting the vulnerable in each society the hardest.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>God&rsquo;s beloveds, each and every one.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>One million, seven hundred sixty<br \/>\nthousand people, at least.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>How do we remember their lives?<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>How do we give thanks for the lives?<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>How do we learn from their lives?<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Today, we pour grains of sand into a<br \/>\nbottle reflecting the deaths over the months of the past year.<br \/>\nToday, tomorrow, and for as long as necessary, we wear masks, we<br \/>\nsocially distance, and we do what we can to prevent more deaths. \u00a0We<br \/>\nhonor those who have died by trying to prevent further death.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>We do what we can.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>And so, I invite you to join me in the<br \/>\nspirit of prayer.<\/p>\n<p>(Sand is poured as words are spoken)<\/p>\n<p>Holy God, for the lives of those who<br \/>\ndied in December, we give you thanks. \u00a0For the loss of their lives,<br \/>\nwe name our sorrow.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\" data-orig-height=\"1422\" data-orig-width=\"1116\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/64.media.tumblr.com\/2b0c8f237de31d507e9cd57ea5d4d012\/d6140e019190945d-18\/s540x810\/f18b9ab5452f35d7a59250eca75565d02324752a.png\" data-orig-height=\"1422\" data-orig-width=\"1116\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Holy God, for the lives of those who<br \/>\ndied in (each month is read), we give you thanks. \u00a0For the loss of their lives, we<br \/>\nname our sorrow.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>For all your saints, O Holy God, we<br \/>\ngive you thanks. \u00a0May we learn from their lives and from their<br \/>\ndeaths, and may the memories of their lives inspire full living,<br \/>\ncompassionate care, deep hope, and profound love in those who have<br \/>\nsurvived them. \u00a0Amen <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(Due to echo, many couldn\u2019t hear the remembrance this year.\u00a0 Words are here.)
